Whether it’s due to the recent pandemic, personal choice, anxiety, or loss, people of all ages and backgrounds have a unique experience with loneliness. With the rise and innovations within technology and online spaces, it has become easier to perpetuate one’s loneliness. Lonely Together is based on the premise, that we all experience and deal with loneliness differently. Each zine features a character who has their own quirks, attributes, likes, and dislikes that respond to their unique forms of loneliness. By interviewing real people and characterizing them and their stories, readers can resonate with and find comfort with a character similar to themselves. It is a story for the lonely people (all of us) of our world. It exists to remind them, that they are never alone in the human experience.

Each character has a description and character-build at the beginning of their zine, to better allow the reader to understand who that character is.
I employed poetry-making stations all throughout the KCAI campus, allowing students and passersby to participate in the overall project. I cut out words and phrases taken from my interviews with lonely people, and let participants anonymously put together their own writings and poems on loneliness.
I then arranged them together and cut the poems out on colorful acrylic rectangles, designed to mimic the actual composition of the poems made on loneliness by real people.
